Challenge Colon Cancer

Blue Brush
Take the Challenge

With nearly 150,000 cases identified each year, colorectal cancer remains one of the medical community’s greatest diagnostic challenges. When found early and treated, patients’ five-year relative survival rate is 90 percent.1

To help improve colorectal cancer screening compliance, physicians should consider the InSure® FIT™ screening test, which offers high sensitivity and ease of use:

  • Patient-friendly, patented long-handled blue brush sampling replaces unpleasant fecal collection or smearing
  • No dietary or medication restrictions
  • In one study, the InSure FIT test had as much as 66% better compliance compared to a leading guaiac-based FOBT screening test2

The InSure FIT is available from Quest Diagnostics and the InSure Quik F I T™ (launching in Spring 2008) is available from Enterix, Inc., a Quest Diagnostics company. Both tests use the same patient sample collection methodology and test technology and are manufactured by Enterix, Inc., Edison, New Jersey.

Collecting the Samples

Both3 the InSure FIT and the InSure Quik F I T patient collection kits are easier to use. Advise your patients to use the patented long-handled brush to gently brush the surface of the stool and then collect the surrounding toilet water by dabbing onto the test card.

The patient repeats the steps for a second sample. Any hemoglobin present in the sample is stable and the patient sends the test card in the supplied envelope to:

  1. A Quest Diagnostics laboratory for testing (InSure FIT)
  2. Physician office for testing (InSure Quik F I T)

Laboratory Analysis

When your patient’s samples from the InSure FIT test are received at the Quest Diagnostics laboratory, a trained technologist undertakes a number of steps to obtain an accurate result.  Your patient’s samples are tracked throughout the process by the laboratory information system.

Results are sent to you by Quest Diagnostics, and then you can contact your patient if any follow-up is needed.

In-office testing with InSure Quik F I T (launching in Spring 2008)

The InSure Quik F I T product provides physicians with a CLIA-waived lab with flexibility to process the tests in-office and bill directly. Once the patient collects their samples, the test is returned directly to your office. Enterix, Inc., a Quest Diagnostics company, or its distributor HemoCue, also a Quest Diagnostics company, will provide the reagent to your office, allowing you to process the test cards and analyze the results. You can then contact the patient with their results and provide options for follow-up testing, such as colonoscopy if needed.

Switch to the Test More Patients Will Actually Use

In a randomized, blinded, three-way comparison of screening technologies in an urban population of 1818 men and women 50-69 years of age the study found:2

  • 66% increase in participation with InSure FIT vs. Hemoccult® SENSA® GFOBT, p<0.001
  • 30% increase in participation with InSure FIT vs. FlexSure® OBT, p=0.001

The InSure Quik F I T test utilizes the same brush and collection methodology as the InSure FIT test and is deemed substantially equivalent to the InSure FIT test.

The study cited inconvenience of dietary and drug restrictions and aversion to sampling feces as two significant barriers to participation in screening for colorectal cancer. The authors concluded that the best improvement in participation was achieved using a brush-sampling fecal immunochemical test for hemoglobin, as it addresses both barriers.2

  • Physician-office convenience with reference laboratory quality with InSure Quik F I T
  • Covered by most health plans and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
